• It works because of the different layers it seems to have - the dark and the barbed wire are restrictive or defensive but the bright sun and the sky are optimistic. It feels more like escape than being trapped.

• Well, you're right. This isn't one of my favorites. However, it's still interesting (is that the equivalent of someone telling you "You outta meet this girl, she's got a nice personality?). Anyway, the coiled barbed wire is a nice touch.

• Very graphic, reminds me contrast of a comic book. That barbwire comes in a contrast with those skies, that looks so free.
  Thus making it a double contrast photo :)
